Prince cooking

The little prince made his way over to Prince Cooking on Noriega Street.  The cute little shop has purple velvet chairs and cute, dainty dishes for their generously sized dishes & desserts.  I tried their Unagi & orzo dish which was tasty & what you would expect at an Asian dessert shop. The orzo was overcooked but I didn’t mind because they made up for it with their sweets. The soup, which was…

Lunches with Grandpa

Great grandpa to you, baby.  Met up with grandpa & sister for a quick lunch at Rice Valley restaurant in the Sunset.  Had grandpa’s dishes of fried rice, eggplant & Singapore rice noodles. True to its name, we had a lot of rice & rice derivative dishes. All deliciously spicy! Grandpa enjoyed his HK style milk tea & baby gazed over longingly.  As grandpa slowly made his way through an impressive array of…

Mom, you eat weird things

Baby will be starting solids soon. Well, maybe the category is more “mushy.” Today at home, I was enjoying my baby’s smiles & laughs. There was a lot of this.  He woke up all cheery & was basically rooting for the home team (Go Giants!); he was so enthusiastic.  He tolerated my photos and even understood as I took pictures of his grandmother’s pig’s feet dishes.  Yes, dishes. I ate pig’s feet two ways for…

Koreatown

A tasty late lunch with Calmsy at Dae Jang Geum Tofu House in Daly City. Bibimbap for me; dumpling tofu soup for Calm. Love the little side dishes, especially the japchae (sweet potato noodles). What we didn’t know is that this filling meal would land us at McDonalds in a couple of hours. They don’t have chicken Mcnuggets & apple pies at tofu places, you know.

Sunday hunk

My baby is so good, he slept through an incredibly noisy dim sum ordeal. Safely tucked away in a corner, he slept soundly has his family chowed down on what surely was too much for seven people. My favorite carb on carb concoction, rice noodle over Chinese donut, drenched in soy sauce made an appearance. With crispy noodles with mushrooms and shredded meat, along with beef chow fun, we had multiple orders of chicken feet,…

Sandwich hero

Here comes Vietnamese sandwiches to save the day! To capitalize on our day, we wanted a quick & delicious lunch. My favorite Vietnamese pick up spot, Que Huong in the Sunset always does the trick. Even with a long line, our sandwiches were ready in no time. The roast pork sandwich & the pork and pate sandwich were the perfect handheld meal to tide us over until our big family dinner later. Many a San…

Pots of little fire

Tonight was our family’s New Years dinner. We like going to Little Fire Pot in Westlake because you don’t have to worry about tainting someone else’s soup because every has their own little pot. I had miso soup as my base and enjoyed endless plates of lamb, beef, shrimp balls & mounds of veggies. Baby was so good and slept through the whole meal. I was excited about this meal because this hot pot place…

Great crepectations

To reward myself for a successful day of… Mommying, a stop at Genki Crepes was in order. Since it was nearing dinner time & baby was sucking the life out of me, I got a beef sukiyaki crepe. Beef, onions & cheese. Can’t go wrong. They do 90% cheese and 10% everything else. A ratio I can live with. Good thing my family makes me eat better because with my egg puffs, a balanced meal…

Baby’s first diner

Little guy’s first time at Mel’s Diner. He enjoyed (I think) watching mom eat steak, eggs & a grilled vegetable salad. The medium rare steak was a perfect bridge for the transition from breakfast to lunch. (Did someone say brunch?) The salad was a bit lackluster but hey, at least I ate vegetables. I exercised such restraint and resisted their thick milkshakes. Nice older lady at the table next to us couldn’t help but to…

“You know, I’m like one-eighth Filipino…”

No, I’m not. But 10-year-old me desperately wanted to be. Growing up with Filipino friends, you just wanted So-En underwear from the Philippines & be one of the pinays. Laughable now when I am comfortably in my own skin. But that doesn’t mean that Filipino food doesn’t still hold a dear place in my heart. Exploring SSF, at Goldilocks I drooled over their baked goods until finally deciding on their savory options. Pinakbet, a vegetable…
