Best advice ever

I read somewhere that if you’re frustrated, need a break and all you got is yourself and baby… Put baby on the floor. The baby can’t fall off of the floor. Genius. After I give the little cutie a bath, I usually have to rinse myself because it’s a full body workout, bath time. I lay out baby under the baby gym, nice & warm. He’s good for at least a little while, knowing that…

Time for Thai

Marnee Thai, that is. My favorite here is the coconut hotcakes which is an appetizer but it feels kind of like dessert. It is garnished with coconut cream, corn & a touch of pumpkin & taro. Every girl’s dream. We also enjoyed their summer rolls which was a light addition to our lunch. The Tom ka soup was on point, with the coconut aroma, perfect for nice San Franciscan day. We chose the spicy curry…

Elephant Baby in a Bar

Baby’s first Elephant Bar experience. Since we buffeted earlier, we went light with the Cowboy Ribeye with sweet potato fries & sautéed veggies. Off the Grid was in the parking lot of Serramonte Mall. I prided myself with restraint for not going for a snack to scope out the DC food truck offerings. Really it was too cold for baby to be outside. Sacrifice, yo. The ribeye was cooked okay, perhaps a little too rare…

The big deal

85 years for the young & 10 weeks for the growing

Celebrating grandpa’s 85th birthday today, along with baby’s 10th week. Enjoyed Kome’s buffet on Junipero Serra in Daly City. I like to fill up on sushi & dim sum. I like the beef stew noodle soup too. I particularly like the hand rolls. You can choose from California handroll, Spicy Tuna, Unagi & fresh Salmon. I ask for no rice so I can eat more! I know, brilliant. Everyone enjoyed the variety of food &…

Baby eat, You eat

Everyone tells new moms: Baby sleep, you sleep. I don’t think sleeping when baby is is always practical. But what about the mommy’s grumbling tummy? We have time for things that are important to us. To me, eating at least three meals & two to three substantial snacks per day is important. Especially now that I’m breastfeeding? Boy, I really can’t afford to miss a meal. Moms know, you need the extra calories because you…

Dumpling Kingdom… In my Stomach!

Ahh… Shanghai Dumpling is tried and true. This popular hole-in-the-wall spot is often busy & shouting helps get superior service. Tonight’s takeout consists of spicy wontons with a delectable peanut sauce, spicy eggplant, green onion pancake (my fave), & dan dan noodles. I heat up my own sweet soy milk to go with the green onion pancake so I can dip to my heart’s content. I sop up the rest of the spicy peanut sauce…

The pho is alright

Back to my old stomping grounds on the outskirts of San Francisco. Hello, Daly City, I’ve missed you. Trying out OK Pho on San Pedro Road and they’re right! The pho is ok. What was great was their fresh spring rolls that have the perfect chewiness of fresh rice paper. Calm got the seafood pho, his staple. The owner John boasts that his place doesn’t use any MSG… Nor does his sister restaurant Oriental Kitchen,…

My little darling

Those gums doe

My son’s bright, toothless smile lights up my day. He wakes up laughing. He giggles in his sleep. He breaks to smile during a feed. Is this real? He literally laughs at everything. Not all the time though. Why, that would be too easy. He laughs out of nowhere, without calculation. It’s the sweetest thing. I think I’m getting an inflated sense that I’m funny because I benefit from his laughter. I don’t think he…

The moms & dads of the baby’s mom & dad

Photo credit: Baby’s Popo Grandparents are like angels sent from above to help struggling, new parents. My parents and my partner’s parents are wonderful. They bring food, help out with the baby and are overall, amazing. It’s such a blessing to not only have these cool people as our family but as the doting grandparents to our baby. The cool part is, they do it all effortlessly. Each pair of parents has raised three children;…

It saddens me that Hawaii doesn’t have good Mexican food

But California does. Burritos are a perfect food. It has all the elements of a delicious meal. Probably more carbohydrates that is advisable per meal, but whatever, who’s counting. (Just kidding, we should care, at least a little, because our longevity & health depends on it.) This handy meal (get it?), has the greatest hits: guac, sour cream, carnitas, salsa, rice, beans, lettuce… This particular one is on a spinach wrap from Chino’s in the…
