Happy almost Chinese New Year

It’s the little one’s first CNY. I was hoping to get baby a little red outfit to ring in the new year. But I didn’t get to it. An outfit with a red car on it will have to do. Or we can see what else baby has in his wardrobe repertoire. Life is such a funny thing. There are some people who are so incredibly loving & helpful. And those that are not. I…

And we’re back

Photo credit: Smity Well, I’m back. Finally little sister and mom can try Swich. Earl grey pudding is a must for sister because she loves that flavor in non-tea items. Topped with an almond cookie, it was just as good as I remember. They made the banana cream pie for us again & it was even better than before. What I missed the first time was a slight burnish sweet finish to the chocolate lining…

The big deal

Duck, duck… Chicken!

Dinner with mother & sister at Lam Hoa Thuan in the Outer Sunset. We’re here for the BBQ but we start off with a Pho appetizer. (We don’t do little starters.) The pho is good, not great but we slurp down vigorously. Apparently, we’re all famished. The three BBQ dishes of choice tonight are roasted duck, BBQ pork & soy sauce chicken. The duck is so good, we order it twice. With our shrimp &…

Hello, pomelo!

Hello sweet pomelo! Your brilliant flesh is shelled in a hard and thick exterior. You seem like you don’t care but I know you do. Why else would you taste so divine? Someone told me not to eat citrus while breastfeeding. So I avoided cuties (wink) & all the things that taste citrus-y & good. Then I decided, what the hey! I’m going to go for it. If baby tells me it’s a no-go, I’ll…

Baby’s first diner

Little guy’s first time at Mel’s Diner. He enjoyed (I think) watching mom eat steak, eggs & a grilled vegetable salad. The medium rare steak was a perfect bridge for the transition from breakfast to lunch. (Did someone say brunch?) The salad was a bit lackluster but hey, at least I ate vegetables. I exercised such restraint and resisted their thick milkshakes. Nice older lady at the table next to us couldn’t help but to…

“You know, I’m like one-eighth Filipino…”

No, I’m not. But 10-year-old me desperately wanted to be. Growing up with Filipino friends, you just wanted So-En underwear from the Philippines & be one of the pinays. Laughable now when I am comfortably in my own skin. But that doesn’t mean that Filipino food doesn’t still hold a dear place in my heart. Exploring SSF, at Goldilocks I drooled over their baked goods until finally deciding on their savory options. Pinakbet, a vegetable…

Mint mojito so good

Finally got to scope the Philz in South SF. I’m not a coffee drinker but I am a fan of the mint mojito coffee. Prepared “one cup at a time,” seems coffee lovers flock here, particularly for this drink. Understandably why, because it tastes divine. I got a coffee buzz, naturally. In fact, I’ve been wanting to scope out this plaza for some time for it is the home of Paris Baguette. This bakery, where…

Getting tipsy at the soup bar

And by tipsy, I mean full. SF Soup Co., you know the key to my heart. When these soups made their way on the scene, I wasn’t sold right away. But now, SF Soup Co. has many varieties that I like to call mine. My ultimate favorite is exotic mushroom. It is a deeply rich & creamy ‘shroom soup. No go today for the mushroom soup so I went with the Creole crab & corn.…

Freaky baby things not to freak out about

I wish someone would have told me about all these normal but freaky things that happen to a newborn. Let me tell you about all the discoveries I’ve made so far. Cradle cap. Looks like kind of like a rash, over baby’s head and eyebrows. The whitish, flakey skin made my baby look like he was the real case of Benjamin Button. More like Benjamin Baby. (I’m referring to reverse aging or the fact that…
