Sushi Sunday

Yum Yum Fish is well named.  My favorite is their Philly roll because their salmon is on the outside. That means more fish for you! The spicy trio: salmon, tuna & scallop. Nigiri belly in our bellies. Baby didn’t not seem impressed with our fish array for he was rather grouchy throughout our meal. It’s okay; it tasted fresh & wonderful regardless.  Oh philly roll, how I cherish your sweet little salmon…

Two mirrors today. One in his toy & one so the driver can see baby in the rear view mirror. Sunshades for the car. The first choice, a Safety…

The hole that Honeyberry left

I have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Pineapple King bakery ever since my dear Honeyberry left the scene.  It was a sad day when I discovered my beloved roti buns were gone.  I had only hoped they could be replaced by something as or at least nearly as delightful.  Today finally the grand opening of this bakery was amass with hungry people. The new staff was overwhelmed but courteous.  Their “hot buns” consist of…

Happy 33rd Birthday Jeany!

Cheers to a sweet 33rd birthday celebration for the lovely Jeany.  Too bad Cheesecake Factory wasn’t on their A-game but we had a ball anyways.  We enjoyed their Kobe burger with mushrooms (extra mayo, yo), goat cheese & beet salad & their corn tamale cakes.   The gumbo proved to be tried & true for the birthday girl. Even got a the lemon meringue cheesecake to go (with a little effort). Nothing is sweeter than…

Dinosaur snackin’

On the way to baby’s future college, we stopped for some great noms at Dinosaur. Baby slept, very typical.  They aren’t out of bread today so we order our favorite shaking beef sandwich. I like the avocado milkshake but today ventured to try their mango lychee shake with mint. A tad too sweet for my liking but refreshing nonetheless. Baby approves of this tropical drink.  The sandwich, as usual, did not disappoint. It’s…

Eggs, eggs, eggs

HB’s sourdough egg sandwich with mayo, arugula, Munster cheese wowed me & baby.  Well, me, anyways.  On a lazy Saturday morning, we’re gearing up to take baby on a tour of Stanford so he can have an idea of what college is going to look like.  Just kidding… Kind of.  Good thing Aunt Jeany wants to have dinner out there so we can start planting the seed of higher education… Long before baby can even speak…

Prince cooking

The little prince made his way over to Prince Cooking on Noriega Street.  The cute little shop has purple velvet chairs and cute, dainty dishes for their generously sized dishes & desserts.  I tried their Unagi & orzo dish which was tasty & what you would expect at an Asian dessert shop. The orzo was overcooked but I didn’t mind because they made up for it with their sweets. The soup, which was…

Lunches with Grandpa

Great grandpa to you, baby.  Met up with grandpa & sister for a quick lunch at Rice Valley restaurant in the Sunset.  Had grandpa’s dishes of fried rice, eggplant & Singapore rice noodles. True to its name, we had a lot of rice & rice derivative dishes. All deliciously spicy! Grandpa enjoyed his HK style milk tea & baby gazed over longingly.  As grandpa slowly made his way through an impressive array of…

Jook in the eye

Preserved egg & shredded meat jook, or rice porridge, is my favorite kind of jook. That black stuff? Preserved egg. It’s dense, the yolk is creamy & oh-so-good. Today, in my exuberance, launched a bit of jook in my right eye.   It really got you, didn’t it Mom? Never before, in all my jook eating days, has it ever gotten in my eye.  I suppose weird stuff like this happens a lot around…

My little darling

Laughable mornings

This little guy just wakes up glowing.  Now that he’s got his little routine down, mornings are usually pretty joyous.  After a decent night’s slumber, baby is all giggles & smiles.  It’s usually later in the day baby gets tired & wants to nap or uh, just be a little grouchy.  Before baby can even talk, he sure knows how to make his laughter infectious.
