GNO

Sushi Sam’s. San Mateo. 7 girls.  Seven omakase. Stars tonight: seared beef, baby lobster, uni.  Note: Sushi Sam’s puts fancy gray salt & lemon on the majority of their sushi. Exciting at first; a little too much after the first two doses.  Eleven bottles of sake.  Mama gotta get a job. Girls food club is costing us an arm & a leg.  Here’s everything we ate. Enjoy. Panna cotta & green tea tiramisu for…

Fancy pork & cupcakes

Emmy got to spend some time with baby tonight & she did a fine job.   We snuck away for some quick eats at Lam’s. The steam rice noodle with fancy & shredded pork with egg roll came in a huge portion. Perfect for a few not so hungry ladies.   The pork belly was our protein & it was well seasoned, filling our bellies with belly. HB’s beef stew noodles had a soup…

Cute baby lottery

That’s what I felt I won.  He’s like, in the words of Dan: totes adorbs. He cries only when: Hungry Dirty diaper Tired Bored* *Not an exhaustive list People like to advise me that carrying baby all the time will spoil him. I won’t get anything done, they say.  You can’t spoil a baby.  At least that’s what the pediatrician tells me. I believe him.  Baby was #3 on this list, maybe a little #1…

Fast Food Francais

Sausalito Wednesday. Found a little spot for a late brunch.  Fried oysters with teeny little pickles. All the food has fancy French names but I don’t remember any of it.   The oysters were fresh and delightly crispy. The tomato based sauce was light & mild. Perfection. Deviled eggs for my handsome devils. I wish there were more to them but they are simple little devils. I like my devils spicy if can. …

Glad you were born

Happy birthday LOML.  I woke up at 4:48 a.m. because baby needed to eat & I was plotting your breakfast.  I was ready to fetch breakfast at 5 a.m. but baby had other plans. He oscillated from sleep & feeding until a little after 7 a.m., when I finally made my escape.  Uncle Benny’s knows how to make an impressive donut. I know you have a curiosity for cronuts but this lush maple bacon donut…

Double lunch

This is my favorite way to eat a meal. Eating double or triple times for the same time slot. It is genius & it is fun.  First up is Indian. Trying Five Rivers Indian Cuisine at Westlake, I discover their goat curry is grreeat. It is spicy & meaty. The rice & naan are good. My Bay Area Indian go-to is Naan-N-Curry so I know I’m hurting to expand my Indian cuisine repertoire. …

Emmy’s Homecoming

A sweet visit from auntie & godmommy Emmy, leads baby bao to (almost) taste his first egg puff.  Mom is no stranger to the egg puff universe. Notably, Quickly uses a thicker batter than most places, lending itself to a rich, dense cake of an egg puff.  Baby seems not so interested as he seems to hold his breath when we try to give him a whiff. Drinks at Quickly are satisfying; papaya…

This child

Is quite literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.  And I seek out cute things, like puppies & such.  So I’ve seen a lot of cute things.  But this baby? Oh my.  A whole new level. Even this morning, waking up a little disgruntled, a little hello & his gummy smile was shining from ear to ear.  After his breakfast, the little hairs on his head was standing up, in full ovation. …

Burger game strong

Enter what’s touted as California’s best burger. Número uno.  4505 Burgers & BBQ holds my heart on a string. It’s on Divis, packed with sunshine, a farmer’s market & hipsters. Even the sign is goregous. I have a thing for typography & beautifully constructed signage.  The burger is the bomb. I don’t revive middle school colloquialisms for nothing.  This is the burger to beat. You know how I feel about Shake Shack (ride…
