To pacify or not to pacify

This has been a great debate in our family. Well, a conversation at least.  We have decided not to give baby a pacifier in an attempt to escape the eventual weaning off of said pacifer at a later time.  The advantage of the binky is it reduces the child’s risk of sudden infant death syndrome. A big deal. Effective even after bink falls out of baby’s mouth while sleeping. Amazing.  Disadvantage is that it heightens…

Mom hack

Mommy lounge

Check these sweet shades I want to get baby when he’s a little bigger. Polarized aviators. Sickkk.  Wow, I talk like a 15 year old boy. Whatever.  While feeding baby at Nordy in the mother’s lounge, my mom came up with a cool hack for propping up my feeding arm, while covertly hiding my feeding apparatus (aka boobs).  We took the baby car seat out of the stroller, put it on the couch & used…

Drinks, snacks & beyond

All in a day’s work

Loads of goodies today. At Earthbar, we discovered their muscle up shake, a supposed meal replacement with almond butter, protein powder & the like.  We drink it like a regular drink however. Not for muscle gain, just for kicks. Pretty tasty little bugger. Thick texture & satisfying. I’d drink this all the time but then I’d just bulk up–not a good look for me. It happened before when I started protein shakes in the…

General musings

Baby may look like he’s sleeping but that doesn’t mean he isn’t hungry.  This little guy wakes up after his midnight feeding at 4:30-5:30 a.m. for his sleepy breakfast.  I consider this to be “sleeping through the night”. In the beginning, I prioritized breastfeeding because it’s very important to me that I try to exclusively do this.  Now I’m getting the hang of it, I want to just go on autopilot.  I realize that breastfeeding…

Baby firsts

My baby is a genius

A little shy of 16 weeks, baby is grasping like a boss. A deliberate and toy to mouth motivated grasp around a plastic key ring.  When I wasn’t looking, he grabbed my hand & tried to stuff it in his mouth. He almost got me.  Miraculous child.  How blessed are we not to be concerned with clean water, access to necessities, housing, clothing & food so we can concentrate on these finer moments.  I am…

Filipino grinds

After a productive afternoon of securing our next bed, it’s time to chow down – filipino style.  Hello Karilagan, home of fine filipino cuisine in sunny SSF.  We forgo our usual pork adobo for a pork stew, called dinuguan. They weren’t kidding when they said the sauce was rich. Reminiscent of a liver taste, we scarf big.  Next is our obligatory vegetable dish. A medley of veggies in a spicy coconut sauce. Surprisingly pink.…

Gratitude

15.2

This just in: baby is a hefty 15.2 pounds! This feels like a Christmas miracle, every little ounce gained.  Our little boy, thriving by breastmilk alone, is our miracle.  This morning, I eat a bagel in bed, with my child’s curious eyes watching the thing that goes crunch.  Today I am grateful for slow mornings, watching my child smile & giggle from a long night’s sleep. Night times are restless; impeding teeth frustrate him.  To…

Happy hour

Enjoying the good weather in San Mateo, happy houring at Paul Martin’s American Grill.  We order enough for baby too because mom is feeding two. No that’s not why; we’re all just hungry. Our mid mall snack was delicious but not enough. How could bread be so good? Really the question is, how can bread not be good?Salmon lettuce wraps are creamy & crunchy. We, however, crave more protein. Enter two orders of ribs. Fall…

The big deal

Sushi Mecca

Foie gras on top of tuna. Peach in there somewhere. Tis delicious. Just a taste of something I love & feel guilty loving. I’m sorry duck.  At Yuubi on Balboa in between 6th & 7th Ave, the sushi comes fast & fresh. Well, average timed really. But definitely fresh.  Greatest hits: sake (salmon, yes sir) & foie. Uni interlude. Nice, chilled & this is when baby wakes up. Top is trout; bottom is artic charr.…

Parental guidance

A sweet time to share with my parents & baby time. My mom’s visit to the farmer’s market amassed the most delicious strawberries, berries & kettle corn. Kettle corn: sugar on carbs. Best combination ever. Does this sound ordinary? It is not.  I have been wanting strawberries for quite some time now. Of course, without knowing, my mother would just have the largest, most spectacular strawberries I have ever tasted. The blackberries…
