Rocky Road

Ice cream is what I want. But that’s neither here nor there. I did have beef organs though. Tripe-y.  An epic weekend filled with family fun. Guess that’s what having a family is like, lots of family fun.  Dim sum with the sibs with a three child to four adult ratio. Luckily, careful sitting arrangement made for a peaceful meal. We even had hot soup, Westlake beef, without incident.    An impromptu trip to the…

Reward for valor

In recognition of my remarkable bravery and valor at the dentist, my reward is… Sushi.    After trying to scope out the cherry blossom festival in Japantown but finding no parking, we were at a loss. And hungry. And temporarily paralyzed on one side of our faces.  Alas, Yum Yum Fish is our sweet savior. Providing delicious sushi since the 1990s. Cool. Little sister was born then.  A lovely visit from friends kept baby jumpin’ jumpin’.…

Eggy

Tough noogies, my late Torts professor Roderick Surrat used to say.  Amidst concerning health news, I’m faced with a sort of metamorphosis. Time to change. Or change enough to be in good health.  Luckily, HB’s eggy delight greets this weekend. Perfected with creme fraiche. Of course I love it because it is creamy, heart warming & packed with protein.  Coupled with MIL’s dumplings, we’re getting this show on the road.   Thick skinned, stuffed with…

My little chicken wing

Just a walk in the park for us. A beautiful aloha Friday. Little guy slept through most of it, naturally.  A somewhat random run in with mom & Guang Guang. As with all family gatherings, we must stop to snack. Lychee cafe is like family to us. Chicken wings & beef tripe for me.   Guang had jook & peanut butter French toast. That man knows how to live! Plus, I get to eat some…

Gussied up

Beautiful day in Northern California. Simply gorgeous weather, likely thanks to global warming.  A lovely afternoon with the parentals with a delicious lunch with my pal Calm.   He’s so great. He eats salad. I had a gyro. Oh man, I’ve been wanting a gyro for centuries.    Daphne, a California Greek eatery, has a nice calming (get it?) ambiance. Plus, they play good music. Empire of the Sun wished us a good rest of…

Dream feeder

Poor baby’s teething woes continue. It’s not all too bad; our sleep is affected however. It’s all good.  Baby usually likes to nurse to sleep but lately he’s be all, “Uh huh, moms, we ain’t eating tonight!” Fine. I’ll snack alone.  After some fried chicken last night, we had a salad! Good on us. Mozzarella! Yay.     Tonight we had homemade dumplings, green & lotsa duck! I nearly ate a whole bird myself, I swear.…

Future Olympian

It’s official: baby is a genius. This morning baby expertly plucked (sorry for the gory details) my nursing pad out of uh, where it usually goes, mid-breakfast.  Baby is four months (twenty weeks, to be precise) & he can grasp. GASP! Developmentally, babies garner this skill usually between nine to twelve months. Clearly, this is a gifted child.  Every parent probably thinks their child is a genius (rightfully so). But mine really is.  Seeing this…

Teething woes

Mochi after a tough afternoon of teething. Pineapple, mango & durian. Not too soft of mochi from Sun Maxim but still a nice treat.  Predinner at Lam’s for some roast duck & chicken.   Long line out the door for pickup, as usual. Some egg & shrimp too.    The mommies scarf. Trick for double dinner is to dine with multiple people so that when everyone else is on dinner number one, you are already…

Bone tired

Being tired as a parent is like no other kind of tired. I remember being pregnant & just being…winded. Like running up flights of stairs.  Good things there are snacks & treats along the way. A grilled cheese at home helps.   Tillamook sharp cheddar all the way on sourdough.    Some Pinkberry to cool off over the warm weekend. I like their mochi; soft, chewy & not too sweet.   Today’s lunch at Little Window…

Bubble baby

Back at Bubble for a sweet fix. We get try their cold desserts this time & found it better than the hot grass jelly.  The cute little mason jar of expresso pudding topped with red beans was quite a treat.   The little red top is charming. Really I was digging for the good stuff, the milky coffee pudding on the bottom. The stuff on the top was just in the way.  At home we…
