Celebrating mom

In an early celebration of our mama’s birthday, we took her on a champagne brunch cruise & to a quick getaway in Napa Valley.  First, we had a wonderful first 4th of July with friends.   Jeany’s ribs were on fleek. Fall off the bone irresistible.    We enjoyed the fireworks in Foster City… Though the noise was a bit much for baby. Hopefully he can still hear.   The next morning, we were all…

Gratitude

A prayer

Whatever beings there are, may they be free from suffering. Whatever beings there are, may they be free from enmity. Whatever beings there are, may they be free from hurtfulness. Whatever beings there are, may they be free from ill health. Whatever beings there are, may they be able to protect their own happiness.  –Karen Connelly, The Lizard Cage  For the first time since baby’s arrival, I’ve poured over a new book. Not instructions from his…

The little things

Restoration

Baby sleeps in late most mornings. I can get a lot done as he’s snoozing away.  This morning, I am back in my oatmeal phase. It’s been a while. In law school, I would eat oatmeal every morning to prepare for the cold & snowy day.   Today has a peanut butter banana oatmeal, made with flaxseed milk. Unimpressive looking, I know. Very tasty though.  Things are lookin’ good. I read this awesome article this…

Baby firsts

Lucky number seven

Happy seven months to my silly, smiley, snuggly little Eggsy.  He is getting to be not so little. Break your mama’s back! After all the Magic Mike fiasco last night, we had a slow morning rising.  Baby had pho for the first time. Pho ga for the win! A touch of tofu too for firsts.  The day ended with Eggsy having sushi for the first time. He had unagi! Some sushi rice & tamago later,…

The becoming

I have been sleeping away from baby lately. I nurse him to sleep & instead of transferring him into his crib, I sneak out & sleep outside.  This works for us. Baby stays asleep, I get some quality slumber.  There’s a precious transformation that has occurred in my becoming a mother.  I thought in this new identity I’d forget who I was but instead I am becoming more of me.  Perhaps I was meant to…

Happy graduation Miss May!

Carnitas pizza from our beloved Nordy cafe for our darling May’s graduation from preschool.     Welcome to Kinder come August, dear child. You’ve move mountains, naturally.  The graduation was short & sweet, just like the nine graduates. Like the Justices of the Supreme Court, nine they were.  We had pizza post ceremony with the kiddies & again with pasta dishes after some perusing around shops.  This girl has overcome so much & will conquer more…

The getaway

Never has any creature been more attached than a child.  Since I cannot commit to being with my child absolutely every second, I must devise a plan to keep ears on him, if not eyes.  Here enters the music maker… Any instrument that the child can entertain him or herself whilst the parent conveniently listens closeby.  My child’s music maker of choice is his baby grand piano. Literally baby grand.  Happily he pounds away as…

Hello equality!

Such sweet news the Supreme Court shares with us this joyous Friday.  Marriage equality for all.  It’s about time. Love is love, after all.  I’m overjoyed that my son will grow up in a world where our nation recognizes marriage because two people are in love. That’s it. No qualifiers of gender or sexual identification.  This solidifies what marriage means to me and the sacred union between two.  Our world is improving. Slowly and surely.…

The thick of it

Ah, yes it has happened. I am losing my mind slowly. A constant occurrence of misplacing things. Trust nothing to me if you want to see it again.  In other news, Eggsy sat in his stroller WITHOUT HIS CARSEAT! To the outside world this means perhaps nothing. To the new parent, this is an exciting development of growth, head control & ultimately, the young one’s independence.       First, let me tell you about a…

We love dads

Yesterday’s Father’s Day celebration was a day of eating & napping. The first round was at Shai Lai in the outer Richmond.  A hefty wait, to be expected on a Sunday for fathers. We were rewarded for our patience. The tiger prawns were delicious & a special treat from the usual fare. The shrimp balls with glutinous rice were also tasty.   After letting the new dad rest, we arrived very late to Uncle Allen…
