Popo

The day before yesterday was a hard day. It was Popo’s three year death anniversary.  I felt a strange aura. We visited Popo & brought baby to meet his great grandmother. We let her know that he is a silly, happy, healthy little boy. She smiled upon us.  It was also HB’s uncle’s funeral yesterday. May his soul rest in paradise evermore.  Amid exciting news for our other loved ones, I think of Popo often…

Gratitude

10

Reflecting on 10 things I am grateful for. A goofy, smiling, unstoppable force of a child.  My health & the good health of my family & friends.  The bonds of family & friends that stand the test of time & distance.  Laughter.  Forgiveness of self for imperfections.  A drive to keep trying. Roadblocks are opportunities.  The future: a chance to try again & to practice.  Loyalty. Focusing on what matters & staying true to these…

Too cool for school

For now. Eggsy is newly nine months & thoughts of preschool are looming overhead. We attended a preschool preview night & here’s what I learned: Preschool applications are a somewhat competitive process.  The child’s fit for the school is probably one of the biggest factors in admission.  Recommended to apply for 3-4 schools (with upwards of 8 schools) & to tour 10-20 before applying.  Location & managability of program (part versus full time) should be…

Village

They weren’t kidding when they said it takes a village.  Baby is throwing us another curve ball. Two little emerging bottom teeth are threatening their appearance & it has made him a drooly, crazed wee one.  He is darling through this. But he has also developed hobbies such as biting & hair pulling. He certainly does not fight clean.  I am pooling resources, taking helpful family’s assistance when available & cherishing the sisterhood of motherhood.…

The big deal

We be clubbing

Just kidding, we don’t go clubbing anymore. That’s ridiculous.  We did get to try Liholiho Yacht Club for dinner though. In “Lower Nob Hill” (aka TL), the small restaurant is tucked in between places for massage & coffee.  I attempted reservations but only 10 p.m. was available. So we chanced our luck & lined up at 4 p.m. for their 5 p.m. opening. Apparently many others had this idea as the line wrapped several buildings…

My little darling

Puppy days

Eggsy is growing at an alarming rate. He is crawling everywhere. Getting into everything. It is fun, seeing his bemusement.  I learned this morning that breast milk changes daily based on the needs of baby. How exceptional are our bodies? Baby’s body communicates with mine to determine what pathogens exist so I can prepare the right antibodies for his defense. Completely & utterly miraculous.  I’m in love, naturally. Our biology makes our bond undeniable. I feel…

The infatuation

This longing, too large for heaven or earth, fits easily into my heart.                                               -Rumi I am hopelessly falling deeper in love with my son. He cooes “mum” & “mama”, melting my already feeble heart.  There is a serious vulnerability now. As a mother, I long for his safety, care & growth. I…

Praise the lord!

I’m not a religious person. Tonight when I stepped into the ER per my doctor’s instructions after a severe & somewhat sudden headache at 2:30 a.m. this morning, I told the receptionist I was Christian when asked my religious preference.  I grew up in a Christian family, went to church fairly regularly & had a lot of fellowship. I liked it when it was fellowship at a restaurant. It’s been a long time since my…

365

Many celebrations of birthdays this month! Amazing Allen on the 10th, dear Calmsy on the 12th, & my pops on the 14th. August is a busy month. Happy birthday to Ricky & Ricky too!  Baby’s been keeping me busy in many ways. I’ve been challenged by my motherhood role. I thought I was getting sick (I was) & considered a late onset of PPD (unsure).  It has been a whirlwind of steak, cheesecake & baby…

The nectar

I have the best people around me. My two lovely girls, Romy & Caro, helped me celebrate another rotation around the sun.  I’ve been dying to try Izakaya Sozai forever. This is not a baby-friendly place: it is small, cramped, with loud music & quite warm inside. There is always a wait.  But the food! Oh, it is so good. We were also celebrating two decades of friendship too.  My favorites were the ramen, tuna…
