The little things

May’s wish list

Reflecting from yesterday’s meeting, I realize May could use a lot of tools to help her learn & grow. Here’s her (educational) wish list: iPad. I know, that’s big. Kids these days are stuck on their parents’ phone & iPads. May doesn’t get to be stuck on one because she doesn’t have one. All the teachers & therapists are convinced that a computer or an iPad could greatly assist May in watching educational videos &…

The big deal

Trust the process

I’ve used this phrase for years with sort of a half held breath. I didn’t really buy it. I wanted to.  Tonight I’m more of a believer. Today at my niece’s surprise IEP, some good things happened. I thought it was just a parent/teacher conference but it was the annual Individualized Education Plan. It’s a big deal.  Miss May is making good strides (literally) with her physical therapy. Speech therapy is making good progress too.…

Chicken skin

I’m pretty beat. A great day with my mom & baby but it’s exhausting. What does it mean when a good day is utterly tiring? What of bad days? We fuel up at Smile cafe on Taraval. Many people have the same idea. The Tuesday special, hai nam chicken rice is delicious. The rice is perfect & comforting.  My dish, seafood bibimbap, is tasty too. I like the crunchy rice at the bottom of the…

The sickness

The kid is sick. I’m on the upswing & he got the hot, hot heat. A fever (non-musical).  Ain’t nobody happy when the baby is sick. A Sunday night fever of 101, fussiness & infant Tylenol it is.  I think it’s the nervous new parent in me to overly worry & fuss over his, well, fussiness.  Saw a comic of how parents react to a baby: “Help him, he sneezed!” Later, as a toddler, a…

Home room

Since coming down with a cold, me & the babe have been home plenty. It’s quite nice.  Last night we took a little adventure out & come home with some yummy things to enjoy at home. We had clams, chicken salad, broccolini & rack of lamb. What an exciting night for us.   Baby didn’t have any lamb since it wasn’t fully cooked. Sadly he didn’t even get to have any pumpkin mousse either.  …

Dream station

Saw a quote this morning: The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.  Of course it would have to be Oprah who said it.  Sometimes the life of your dreams isn’t something you conjure up first. Sometimes you’re living it & in the quiet moments, you realize that hey, this is the life I’ve been dreaming about.  I snuck away while baby was still sleeping this morning & peeked…

Calling in sick

Can’t really do that when your tiny boss has no boundaries & still has relentless needs to be met.  Luckily things are in the upswing now. Being sick for even two days is a big deal in kidland.  This morning, the little dude was snoozing right along, looking angelic. 10 months in & our schedule is feeling normal. Still can’t believe we get to keep him.   Here he is, prebuffet, with his lion’s bib…

Catch of the bay

This little jewel has been right below our noses. Pacific Cafe in the Outer Richmond has been here forever. We never bothered to try it.  Almost went across the street but instead we opted for something new. We’re glad we did.  They have free-flowing wine for those waiting for a table! I enjoyed it quickly & it made me happy.  Baby made lots of friends while waiting too. Eggsy had an older gentleman professing his…

Tot travel

Here we are at the gum wall where I stood too close & almost got stuck!  I feel like Supermom. I flew with the tot solo, while wheeling our carry-on luggage & one personal item. I brought the full supply of diapers for our 2 week trip in my luggage. That took up 25% of the space. I did so because we benefited from a Target sale & I refuse to buy even more diapers…

BFD

We’re finally home from Seattle. After a while, it felt like we lived there. Short term stay; longish visit.  Here’s my TOP TEN rainy city’s highlights (get ready, it’s wordy!): Being with Smity. She is the best! An absolute dream to breakfast, lunch & supper together. She is a busy girl but we have the best adventures in food & travel.  Savor Seattle food tour. For two hours, we explored Pike Place’s culture, history & of course,…
